How a New Front Door Can Boost Kerb Appeal

A new front door is an upgrade that is often overlooked, but can dramatically transform how your home looks and feels from the outside. It’s often the first thing people notice, so changing it can instantly boost your property’s kerb appeal.

           What is kerb appeal?

The attractiveness of a property when viewed from the street, a significant influence on first impressions and buyers’ first interest.

Here’s how it makes such a big difference:

           1. It creates a strong first impression

Your front door acts as the “face” of your home. A worn, faded, or outdated door can make the whole property look and feel tired. Replacing it with a new door gives an immediate sense of care and quality.

           2. Adds colour and personality

A new door lets you introduce a bold or complementary colour. Whether it’s a classic black, a deep navy, or something more vibrant, the right shade can highlight architectural features and make your home stand out on the street.

           3. Enhances architectural style

Choosing a door that matches your home’s design, whether traditional, Victorian, or contemporary, helps tie everything together. Details like paneling, glazing, and hardware can reinforce the overall aesthetic.

           4. Improves symmetry and proportion

Upgrading to a door with sidelights or a better-sized frame can balance the front appearance, making the entrance feel more welcoming and visually pleasing.

           5. Upgrades materials and finish

Modern doors, whether composite, uPVC, or solid timber, offer clean finishes, durability and insulation. They are built to resist warping, fading, and weather damage, keeping your home looking sharp for years to come.

           6. Better hardware = better look

New handles, knockers, letterboxes, and house numbers might seem small, but together they create a polished, cohesive appearance.

           7. Boosts perceived value

A high-quality front door subtly signals that the rest of the home is well-maintained. This can increase perceived, and sometimes actual, property value, especially if you’re planning to sell.

           8. Improves lighting and openness

Doors with glazed panels or frosted glass can brighten your entrance area while still maintaining privacy, making the home feel more inviting.

Living in Sussex, it’s easy to see that there are a huge variety of property styles across different areas, but what windows are best suited to each type of building? It’s quite amazing how many different styles of houses there are in Sussex, with period homes, cottages, barn conversions, modern developments and coastal homes all with very different architecture. With only so many windows to choose from (although there are quite a few!), how can you know what will best suit your home? This article covers everything from the types of window, material and colour to glass options, ventilation and repairs.

that suit your home can be difficult, the key thing is to match the architecture of the building so they look ‘right’. Most homeowners in Sussex choose to replace windows with the same type as the existing ones to ensure they match the property, but there are still a wide range of options for material, profile and colour.

Casement, tilt and turn and fixed windows are very versatile options that suit almost all properties. These are available in PVCu, wood and aluminium, all of which bring unique features. But it’s not just the material and opening that differs with these windows, there are various profiles including sculptured, flush sash and slim sash which all give a completely different look.

            - part of the window slides up to open.

Vertical sliding windows are typically suited to heritage style Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian properties. Available in timber and PVCu in a range of colours.

How does material make a difference?

PVCu is the modern choice for many windows due to its affordability, low maintenance and wide range of finishes including heritage timber-alternative styles. Whilst aluminium brings sleek, slim sightlines and is often seen in buildings with very modern architecture or as a replacement for old Crittall windows. Timber is more traditional and costly but a beautiful finish.

There are a range of colour choices for all types and materials of window and whilst the choice is ultimately yours, homes look best when the window colour is matched to the surrounding materials. Typically, brick homes work well with white, cream and anthracite grey; stone homes suit softer tones and pastel colours like

; rendered homes look great with bold and contrasting colours; whilst homes with weatherboard/cladding suit black, white and natural tones. PVCu windows also have the option of a woodgrain or smooth finish - woodgrain finish is very popular for a more traditional look.

All new windows must be double or triple glazed to meet the current building standards, it is no longer an option to install new single glazed windows. But what is the difference between double and triple glazing? Whilst there is a small improvement in thermal performance with triple glazing, it does not bring a significant improvement on the insulation of your home when compared to double glazing. Triple glazing does however have greater noise reduction as a result of the extra pane of glass. Most homeowners opt for double glazing as it is less expensive and very good at insulating. Now for the question of clear or obscure glass….clear glass allows maximal light to enter the home and allows for great views of the outdoor whilst obscure glass is ideal for privacy. There are lots of patterns available in obscure glass, see below.

Ventilation plays a huge role in keeping a home healthy and comfortable, but it’s something many people only think about when problems like condensation or stuffy rooms appear. One small, often overlooked feature that can make a big difference is the trickle vent. In the UK, building regulations now (since 2022) require the use of

in most replacement and new-build windows to maintain healthy airflow. They help ensure a minimum level of ventilation without relying on windows being open all day long. This also helps to reduce the build up of moisture and condensation within the home which could lead to mould and other damp damages as well as helping to remove ‘stale air’, bad odours and heat.

Integral blinds are a great option for privacy and shade whilst being low maintenance and child-safe, these are blinds which are built inside of the glass sealed units and operated with a magnet or remote.

Patio Doors Vs Bifold Doors - What's the difference?

           What are patio doors?

Patio doors are typically large glass doors that open onto a patio or outdoor area. They are most commonly sliding doors made up of two glass panels, where one panel slides behind the other to open.

           What are bi-fold doors?

Bi-fold doors consist of tall, slim glass panels that fold and stack together, similar to an accordion, allowing a wide opening between indoor and outdoor spaces.

           What difference can they make?

Patio doors create a smaller opening but take up very little space when opened.

Bi-fold doors can open up an entire wall, creating a seamless connection to the outdoors, but they require more space to operate.

When closed, patio doors offer a broader uninterrupted view, with framing only around two glass panels. Bi-fold doors have narrower views due to frames between multiple panels.

Patio doors are generally easier to operate, as they involve a simple sliding action, while bi-fold doors can require more effort to open and close.

Insulation Services were contacted for solutions to improve the warmth of this Sussex Victorian home through improved energy efficiency of the windows and doors. Originally built with wooden, single glazing - we replaced most windows and doors with double glazed PVCu and added secondary double glazing to preserve the originality of one large window. We were also asked to advise on how to bring more natural light into the upstairs hallway.

The project began with an initial home visit to view the building, discuss options with the homeowner and record measurements. To preserve the original character of this Victorian home, we recommended installing windows and doors from

That starts with good communication, from initial enquiry through to finished installation, we make sure you’re informed every step of the way - that includes information about product guarantees and costs. We don’t believe in promoting huge discounts and confusing you about the pricing of products - every job is priced individually based on the product and labour costs. We don’t inflate prices just to bring them down later as a ‘discount’, we price fairly and honestly from day one so you’re never overcharged. We believe that honesty and transparency lead to better results from finished installations and happier customers.

Common Mistakes Homeowners Make and How to Avoid Them

           1. Choosing Price Over Longevity

When investing in home improvements such as new windows, doors or a conservatory, it’s sensible to obtain quotations from a few local businesses. However, it’s just as important to understand why those quotes may differ in price.

A common mistake homeowners make is choosing the cheapest option - often to save money in the short term or because comparing quotations can feel complicated. While a lower price may seem appealing initially, there is usually a reason it’s cheaper.

This might mean lower-quality products, rushed or substandard installation, limited or unclear guarantees, or a lack of care once the work is complete. These issues may not be obvious at first, but they can lead to inconvenience, repairs, or additional costs further down the line.

To avoid this, ask each company to clearly explain what is included in their quotation - and what isn’t. Take time to read reviews, look at how long the business has been established, understand the expected lifespan of the products being offered, and what ongoing maintenance may be required.

           2. Not Planning for the Future

If you’re considering investing in your home, it’s worth asking yourself whether you’re planning for the future or focusing only on what works right now. While it’s natural to look for solutions that meet your immediate needs, it’s just as important to consider how you will find them in the future.

What happens when the children move out, or if working from home becomes permanent? A solution that feels convenient today could become limiting or impractical in years to come.

Before making any significant changes, take a moment to think five or even ten years ahead. Is the decision going to continue to serve you well, or will it be less suited to you in the future.

           3. Choosing a Company Who Communicate Poorly

Choosing value over price also means choosing a business that communicates clearly with you. Good communication is essential when someone is working on your home.

There’s nothing worse than small misunderstandings becoming big problems when you believe something is included, only to find it isn’t, or has been done differently to what you expected. Be wary of businesses giving vague answers, rushing decisions and not wanting to explain things.

Any business that avoids detail or pressures you to move forward before you fully understand what’s involved is not a good choice. A reputable company will take the time to explain your options and make sure everything is clear from the outset.

What are the different types of door handle and what is the difference?

Lever Lock, Offset Lever, Slam Shut and Thumb Turns explained...

There are three main types of door handle/locking system, these are lever/lever, latch lock (also known as offset lever) and slam shut. But what do these mean? Let's find out...

           Lever Lock

A lever is the simplest type of door handle, commonly found on older doors, back doors and internal doors. The internal and external handles operate on the same spindle so the door can be opened from the inside and outside unless locked with a key. The door is locked by lifting the handle to throw the multipoint locks and turning the key locks the door. For example, if you go outside and the door shuts behind you, you will be able to open the door simply by pressing the lever down.

           Latch Lock (Offset Lever)

Commonly found on modern front doors. This system also uses lever handles but the internal and external handles are operated independently from each other. When the door is closed, it is only possible to open it from the inside without using a key, it will lock from the outside. For full security, you need to lift the handle and turn the key to lock. For example, if you go outside and the door shuts behind you, you won’t be able to open it just by pressing the lever down, a key is required to unlock it from the outside.

           Slam Shut

Slam shut doors usually have a bar or finger pull on the exterior of the door with a lever, thumb turn, key turn, finger pull or bar for opening from the inside. When the door is pulled/pushed closed, it locks. A key is required to open it from the outside and either a lever, thumb turn or key turn is required to open the door from the inside. Turning the key or the thumb turn to lock the door, engages the deadlock for full security.

           What is a Thumb Turn?

A thumb turn lock is thumb-operated knob, similar size to a key that is turned to lock and unlock a door from the inside. A thumb turn can be added onto a slam shut door as a method of opening the door from the inside as well as to engage the dead lock for full security. A thumb turn can also be installed on a door with a lever or a latch lock to allow locking from the inside without requiring a key.

           Here’s what you can do to improve the security of your home;

            Invest in laminated glazing.

Replace door and window locks to have multipoint locking systems with 3 star rated cylinders.

Replace PVCu door panels with aluminium reinforced PVCu panels.

Consider investing in new windows or doors which are Secured by Design and consider a modern composite door, manufactured with extra reinforcement.

How does laminated glazing enhance security?

Laminated glass is made with a layer of vinyl plastic (a strong-binding resin) between the layers of glass which acts to hold the glass together even when shattered, similar to a car windscreen. Unlike toughened glass which breaks into lots of small pieces or tempered glass which breaks into shards, laminated glass gives extra strength and security with its ability to withstand impact, making it a lot more difficult for intruders to break through. Most existing windows and doors can be upgraded to have laminated double or triple glazed sealed units.

How is a multipoint locking system with a 3 star cylinder more secure?

A multipoint locking system has several locks along the edge of the door, ensuring high security and no vulnerable areas being left exposed. The 3 star rating indicates that the lock meets test standards and is considered safe and secure. Diamond secure 3 star cylinders ensure locks meet an even higher standard, preventing intruders ability to snap or drill the lock cylinder. Most locks can be upgraded in existing windows and doors.

How can the manufacturing of your door make a difference?

Composite doors specifically are often designed with strength in mind. Rockdoor composite doors have the option to be manufactured with a steel security mesh that cannot be cut through to ensure high security from break ins. Whilst Palladio composite doors are manufactured with an ultra strong monocoque structure resistant to impact. Apeer composite doors are also manufactured with an expanded mesh reinforcement within the core and a strong vertical steel bar, exceeding Police approved security standards.

PVCu doors can also have aluminium reinforcement within the PVCu panels for extra strength.

Ventilation plays a huge role in keeping a home healthy and comfortable, but it’s something many people only think about when problems like condensation or stuffy rooms appear. One small, often overlooked feature that can make a big difference is the trickle vent.

So, what exactly are trickle vents?

are small openings built into the frames of windows that allow a controlled amount of fresh air to circulate indoors, even when the window is closed.
They’re usually found at the top of modern windows and can be opened or closed manually with a simple slider.

Why do homes need trickle vents?

Moisture, indoor pollutants, and stale air build up in every home through everyday activities such as cooking, showering, drying clothes, or simply breathing. If this moisture has nowhere to escape, it can lead to condensation, damp patches and peeling paint, black mould, poor air quality and musty smells.

Trickle vents provide continuous background ventilation, helping prevent these issues by allowing moisture-laden air to escape and fresh air to enter.

           Are trickle vents a requirement?

In the UK, building regulations now (since 2022) require the use of trickle vents in most replacement and new-build windows to maintain healthy airflow. They help ensure a minimum level of ventilation without relying on windows being open all day long.

Do trickle vents make your home colder?

This is a common concern, but they don’t have a significant impact on the temperature of your home.

Trickle vents allow only a small, controlled flow of air. They don’t create large drafts, and they shouldn’t noticeably reduce the warmth of your home. In fact, by reducing dampness and improving air quality, they often make a home feel more comfortable.

Should you keep trickle vents open?

For the best results, yes, especially in winter when condensation is most likely. You can close them if needed (for example, during high winds), but keeping them open ensures a steady flow of fresh air and keeps humidity under control.

Trickle vents may be small, but they play a big role in maintaining a healthy indoor environment. They’re a simple, cost-effective way to reduce condensation, prevent mould, and improve overall air quality — all without opening your windows or compromising security.

What are U Values and Why are They Important to Consider?

When you’re choosing new windows or doors for your home, you’ll soon come across the term U-value. It appears on brochures, energy ratings, and product specifications—but what does it actually mean? And why does it matter?

           What Is a U-Value?

A U-value measures how easily heat passes through a building material. Think of it as a “heat loss score.”

Low U-value = better insulation, less heat loss, more energy efficiency
High U-value = poorer insulation and more heat escaping from your home

U-values are measured in W/m²K (watts per square metre per degree Kelvin).
The lower the number, the less energy your home loses—and the warmer and cheaper to heat it will be.

Why U-Values Matter When Choosing New Windows or Doors…

Windows and glazed doors are typically the weakest point in your home’s insulation. Even high-performance double glazing won’t insulate as well as a solid wall, but choosing products with the right U-values can make a significant difference.

Better insulation means you won’t need to heat your home as frequently/to as high temperatures to maintain a comfortable setting, helping you save money on your energy bills. Glazing with a low U value rating will also reduce cold spots, draughts and condensation, improving comfort. It’s also better for the environment due to less energy usage.

Understanding U-Values in Different Window Components

When you see brochures or information mentioning a U-value, it may apply to different parts of the window or door. This is important, because the glazing, frame, spacer bars and assembly will all have different thermal properties.

is the U-value of just the glazing, measured in the middle of the glass. Double glazing is typically around 1.2–1.4 W/m²K whilst triple glazing can be as low as 0.5–0.7 W/m²K.

is the U-value of the window frame material, which varies by design. PVCu is a very good insulator, timber is also a good insulator whilst aluminium requires thermal breaks to perform well.

           Whole Window U-Value (Uw)

is the actual U-value you should compare when choosing windows or doors.

It measures the glazing, the frame, the spacer bars and how the unit is assembled. The whole-window U-values are always higher (worse) than the glazing values, but they reflect the real performance of the window.

What Is a Good U-Value for Modern Windows?

For UK homes, typical performance ranges are 1.2 to 1.8 W/m²K for double glazed windows and 0.5 to 1.2 W/m²K for triple glazed windows.

Manufacturers use a combination of technologies to lower U-values, including Low-E (Low Emissivity) Glass which has a microscopically thin coating that reflects heat back into the room. Argon or Krypton gas between the panes of double and triple glazing reduces heat transfer. The use of warm edge spacer bars to replace cold metal spacers helps to improve edge insulation and reduce condensation. Thermally broken frames for aluminium products.

U-Values vs Energy Ratings: What’s the Difference?

You might see windows labelled with an energy rating (A++, A+, B, etc.), similar to appliances. These ratings consider the U-value, solar heat gain coefficient (the amount of heat from the sun that can pass through the glazing), visible transmittance (how much light passes through the glazing) and air leakage. Energy ratings reflect overall performance, but U-value remains the most reliable indicator of insulation.

Choosing the right window installer can make all the difference to your home’s energy efficiency and long-term value as well as your peace of mind. The quality of the installation is just as important as the quality of the windows themselves. A poorly fitted window can lead to draughts, condensation, leaks, and long-term structural issues — which is why it’s worth knowing exactly what to look for before hiring a window company.

This article will give you a clear guide finding a reliable, professional window installer you can trust.

           1. Check for Proper Accreditation

In the UK, competent installers should be registered with an approved body such as

           FENSA or CERTASS

. This ensures the installation meets building regulations and includes a certificate for your records, important if you ever sell your home.

Any reputable installer in Sussex will be happy to show you their FENSA or CERTASS registration, insurance-backed guarantee and proof of public liability insurance. If an installer cannot provide these, consider it a red flag.

           2. Look for Strong Local Reputation & Reviews

When searching for a window installer in Crowborough, Tunbridge Wells, Heathfield, Wadhurst, Crawley, or surrounding areas, your first stop should be online reviews.

The best places to check reviews are Checkatrade, Google and Facebook. Make sure to look at the quality of the feedback and what customers have to say about the company as well as the star rating. Good things to look for are mentions of clean workmanship, professionalism, clear communication, punctuality and aftercare. Installers with years of consistent positive reviews in your area are usually a safe bet.

           3. Ask to See Real Examples of Their Work

Good window installers will happily provide photos and case studies of their work. High quality window installers also often have a showroom where you can browse and experience the various windows available to you before you buy.

It's good to notice if the company have experience working on only new builds, older properties or both?

If you have an older property in Sussex, it is important the window installers you choose are capable and experienced to work on such buildings as they often require:

Careful measuring, bespoke trims, specialist attention to draught-proofing and sensitivity to original features.

A portfolio shows how well the company handles different window styles, materials, and property types.

           4. Compare Quotes — But Don’t Just Choose the Cheapest

It’s always smart to get 2–3 detailed quotes, but beware of prices that seem too good to be true. Low prices can often mean:

Cheap, low-performance windows, rushed installation, limited or no guarantee and hidden extras added later.

A good quote should clearly list:

Window specifications (e.g. uPVC, aluminium, timber)

            Glass type & energy rating

            Labour cost

            Disposal of old windows

            Timeframes

            Warranty details

Transparency is a sign of professionalism.

           5. Ask the Right Questions Before Hiring

Before committing to an installer, have you asked these questions…

           1. Are you FENSA or CERTASS registered?
2. How long have you been installing windows in Sussex?
3. What brands or window systems do you use?
4. Do you use subcontractors or your own installation team?
5. How long is the product and installation guarantee?
6. Can you provide recent references from my local area?

A trustworthy installer will answer confidently and clearly with good evidence of their installations.

           6. Check Communication & Professionalism

You can tell a lot about a company by your first interaction with them. A good installer will respond promptly, provide clear, honest advice, avoid pressure-selling tactics, respect your home and time and be approachable and patient with questions. Good communication before installation usually means good service during and after the job as well.

           Conclusion

Finding a trustworthy, skilled window installer in Sussex doesn’t have to be difficult — it simply requires knowing what to look for. Check accreditations, read local reviews, compare detailed quotes, and choose a company with a proven track record in your local area.

A well-installed window won’t just make your home warmer and more efficient, it will last for decades.

How Can I Improve the Insulation of Single Glazed Windows?

How can I improve the insulation of single glazed windows?

Whilst most homes are now equipped with double or triple glazed windows, some older homes may still have only single glazed windows. Now the obvious answer to this question would be to install new double-glazed windows, however, we understand that not everyone is in the position to be able to do that. Whether you are renting a home and your landlord isn’t keen on replacing the windows or perhaps you just can’t afford it right now… we have a few things that might just help you survive this coming winter.

Installing secondary double glazing is the most effective method of insulating single glazed windows. This involves installing a second frame and pane of glass on the inside of the window to create a layer of trapped air, slowing the transfer of heat. Although this is still a slightly costly and more ‘permanent’ solution

            .

If you are looking to install secondary double glazing to your windows in Sussex or Kent, we can help! Contact us for a free quotation.

You can create a DIY secondary double glazing with either clingfilm (for the most basic level of increased insulation) or clear Perspex from a DIY store and double-sided tape. Essentially, you want to try and create a similar effect of trapping a layer of air between the glass of the window and the clingfilm or Perspex. Thick double-sided tape (e.g. foam tape) is recommended. Stick the tape all the way around the edge of the glass, then stick the cling film or Perspex to the remaining side of the tape. To finish it off, run a layer of normal tape around the edge to seal against the window frame/wall.

The other option to improve the insulation of single glazing is to install heavy curtains or insulated blinds, to help keep the warmth in your home.

5 Reasons you should invest in a conservatory for your home

            More Space and Comfort

Create an extra living space in your home to enjoy. A conservatory can work for many purposes whether it becomes an entertainment space, relaxation pod, home office or something else, you can enjoy the comfort of a larger home.

2. More Natural Light

With large windows and glass roofs, conservatories provide beautiful views of your garden and bring the outdoors in. They offer a tranquil space filled with natural light, perfect for relaxation year-round.

3. Increase Kerb Appeal

A well constructed and aesthetically appealing conservatory can add value to your home when it comes to selling. It is an enticing space that can encourage buyers to consider purchasing a property.

4. Fully customisable and cost effective extension

Conservatories are often more affordable and faster to build than major structural extensions, and often don’t require planning permission. Plus, you can fully customise the style and design of your conservatory to suit your needs and the aesthetics of your home.

5. Thermal efficiency

Constructed with double or triple glazed and thermally efficient windows and doors, conservatories provide an energy saving space to enjoy all year round.

Improvements in the manufacturing and materials of modern windows and doors can significantly improve thermal efficiency, saving you money and contributing more to protecting the environment. Modern options include wood, PVCu, aluminium and composite GRP, each offering unique benefits.

Whilst many homes were originally built with wooden windows and doors, the features and manufacturing of modern materials have improved vastly to offer better insulation and durability. Wood is a natural insulator and retains heat very efficiently, but older windows/doors often suffer from moisture and insect damage, reducing efficiency.

. Accoya is sustainably sourced from responsibly managed forests and has a low carbon footprint. Due to the unique properties of Accoya, it is indigestible to a wide range of pests, providing a highly effective barrier to insect infestations. Further checks have been undertaken to ensure accoya wood is trusted not to swell, shrink or distort, remaining highly durable for 70 years plus.

Since 2002, new regulations require new windows and doors to be double glazed, replacing the single pane glass commonly used in older homes. Double and triple glazing combined with thicker frames, significantly improves the heat retention and thermal efficiency of modern windows.

A more cost-effective choice that still offers excellent energy efficiency is PVCu. Thanks to its multi-chambered frame, air is trapped inside to reduce heat transfer. The material itself is a low thermal conductor, helping your home stay warm by limiting heat loss. PVCu is also highly durable and weather resistant. It doesn’t absorb water, so it’s less likely to warp or lose shape over time. Its lightweight design puts less strain on hinges, helping your windows and doors function smoothly for years to come.

For those wanting slim sightlines and maximal glass space whilst ensuring thermal efficiency, aluminium is a great choice. Similarly to PVCu, aluminium windows feature chambered profiles that trap air to reduce heat transfer. Because aluminium is naturally a good heat conductor, a thermal break is incorporated to further minimize heat loss, ensuring aluminium windows meet modern energy efficiency standards.

Composite GRP is currently the top choice for thermally efficient doors on the market. These doors are made by compressing multiple materials under high pressure. They typically feature a solid timber inner frame (though not all models include timber) and a high-insulation foam core, all encased by a thick glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin on both sides—usually thicker than a standard PVCu door skin. Some of our doors also offer an optional steel mesh embedded within the foam core for added strength and security.

While thermal efficiency is important for saving money and protecting the environment, proper ventilation also plays a key role. Adding trickle vents to window frames ensures a steady flow of fresh air between indoors and outdoors. This continuous ventilation helps prevent moisture and condensation build up, reducing the risk of mould and damage inside your home.

Another effective way to reduce energy consumption in your home is by adding more windows. Roof windows offer a variety of styles to brighten your space with natural light, helping to lower your electricity usage.

In summary, upgrading to modern windows and doors offers significant potential to reduce energy costs and support environmental sustainability. Advances in manufacturing mean that all new windows and doors now meet high standards of thermal efficiency. While some materials offer superior performance, there are affordable options and styles available to suit both your budget and the character of your home. Additional features like trickle vents can also help protect your property by preventing moisture build-up, while roof windows are a great way to increase natural light and reduce reliance on artificial lighting.

Windows and doors are a major aspect of your home. Not only do they keep you safe from the elements all year round, but they also provide security and comfort for your family. Modern windows and doors are not all about functionality, they also bring a stylish and aesthetic appeal to your home! Create your very own grand entrance with a new front door, available in PVCu, Composite GRP, Aluminium and Hardwood with double or triple glazing, choose a colour to suit you and any furniture to make everything bespoke to your requirements. Why stop at a front door when you can have a bespoke porch or door pillar surrounds installed to complete the look?

New replacement windows will not only improve your home visually, they will also improve energy efficiency in your home, in turn, reducing your heating bills. Replacement windows come with enhanced security and can reduce outside noise. Windows are available in PVCu, Aluminium and Hardwood and are available in a range of colours and styles to suit you. They use the latest ultra efficient double or triple glazing.

If you require extra space or to turn your existing conservatory into an all year round room, consider a warm roof. In many cases, the original windows and doors can be kept by reinforcing them with extra posts and the roof can be removed and replaced with either an insulated flat roof or warm tiled roof. The flat roof option uses either a fibreglass GRP finish or a liquid rubber finish. The tiled roof option uses light weight composite composite tiles, which come in a variety of colours and look like authentic slate tiles. Glass roof lights can be added to give the room extra light. Your roof can be finished internally with plaster to look like other rooms in your home.

Create an attractive, aesthetically pleasing home whilst enhancing comfort and thermal efficiency. Explore how new windows, doors, conservatories, cladding, fascia and soffit can transform your home. A simple way to improve comfort through enhanced heat retention, sufficient air circulation, additional space and enhanced security. Gain protection from water damage and dampness. At the same time you’ll be increasing the kerb appeal of your home, enticing visitors and catching the attention of potential buyers.

With ever increasing technology available, manufacturing of windows and doors has improved significantly. Homes are able to be much more energy efficient, retaining as much warmth as possible and helping to reduce your heating bills! Through the use of double and triple glazed sealed units, heat transfer from both inside and outside of your home is slowed down, helping to keep heat inside your home. Double and triple glazing is also useful to reduce condensation on your windows. Although it may not seem a huge issue, condensation can lead to mould, damage to walls, curtains and other parts of your home. Another feature of windows and doors that has been introduced is the use of trickle vents, now compulsory on new builds. Trickle vents sit in the frame of the door/window and allow constant ventilation into and out of the room, reducing the build up of moisture and removing ‘stale air’ from inside. Further to this, security features of both windows and doors have been improved, through enhanced locking systems and the use of stronger materials, to provide maximum protection for your family and belongings. Windows and doors are available in a wider range of materials, including pvc-u, aluminium, composite and hardwood, creating a more robust frame whilst giving you a huge choice of styles and colours to suit you. Create further kerb appeal and extra convenience on rainy days with a custom built porch entrance, a porch or pillar entrance gives your home a bespoke style and may help catch the interest of potential buyers.

Add comfort to your home and create a new space to enjoy with a conservatory, orangery or all weather room! Enjoy better views of your garden from the comfort and warmth of being inside especially in winter, and bring more light into your home with larger window spaces. Worried about losing warmth during winter? As with windows and doors, conservatory buildings are also advancing, with many people now choosing to have a warm roof with skylights or lantern roof windows. This still allows light to flood the room, giving you an open, airy feel whilst also retaining more heat than a glass roof conservatory. With the wide range of materials available, you can create your very own, bespoke room in a style that suits you and your home, maintaining maximum comfort and creating aesthetic appeal.

Add cladding and replace old fascia and soffits to further improve appearance, insulation and weather resistance. Protect the longevity of the foundations of your home by preventing water damage and protecting from wear and tear. You may choose to add cladding to bring a modernised appearance and increasing kerb appeal. Fascia and soffit boards should be replaced when old and worn to ensure protection to the walls and roof whilst providing support for guttering. Functioning guttering is vital to protect your home from water damage, damp and mould which could have a detrimental effect to fascia, soffits, walls, ceilings, window frames and paint.

Give your home a new life, add protection and increase energy efficiency with these home improvements. The windows and doors products are all PVCu – selected for their style, performance and value for money. The front door is an ‘Assington’ style door featuring a high security locking system and an Irish Oak exterior and white interior, an obscure toughened glass sealed unit (to allow light into the hallway) and antique black door furniture. The windows are ‘A’ rated with 6 chambers for improved energy efficiency; they are internally glazed with argon filled 28 mm double glazed sealed units.

We deployed a 2-man team to carry out the removal and installation work, liaising closely with the customer for the sequence of working (to cause least disruption and disturbance). All windows and doors were carefully and safely installed within one week on site.

All waste materials were removed from site daily and the outside of the house was tidied up on completion. A follow up visit was arranged to address the last minor adjustments and to demonstrate how the windows opened for cleaning.

“I am very happy with the new windows and doors; they make such a difference. The old windows had leaks and gaps and were very draughty! Now the newly installed windows are warmer and quieter – as well as looking good. I am happy to recommend Insulation Services.”

The trend for building traditional conservatories is fading; instead, new exciting and innovative ideas are being developed and realised as more people want a better year-round useable extension to their homes (rather than a glass box that can often only be used for a few months of the year when it’s not too hot and not too cold!).

Insulation Services has recognised and met this trend by supplying and installing new ‘Warm Roof’ products and ‘Orangeries’ in modern styles that offer year-round comfort and useability – a real purposeful solution to what is sometimes no more than a greenhouse!

Insulation Services uses an award-winning solid roof system which is the most configurable and structurally robust, insulated and tiled roof in the UK. Thanks to the advanced technology, the building control approved roof provides the highest levels of thermal efficiency.

The roof covering uses ’Tapcoslate’ tiles – these are a mixture of limestone and PVC and provide a lightweight alternative to traditional slate tiles; Tapcoslate tiles are easy to cut and work with on site without compromising performance. They are identical to natural slate in their appearance so are the perfect choice for an authentic, detailed roof design. Tapcoslate tiles are moulded from real slate tiles but unlike natural slate, they will not break or delaminate and are available in a range of authentic colours.
